Test, Trials, and Pressure Produce Gratitude

James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

James at first glance seems so far from what makes one grateful.  How can trials, testing and pressure produce gratitude.

Remember a lump of coal when put under intense pressure over an extended period of time produces a diamond. Iron when put in a red hot fire for a protracted period of time produces steal.

When we are facing trouble, some trials that seem to persist, if we will consider them as blessings in disguise and rejoice until we come out as fine gold they will produce patience and when patience is finished we will be mature, complete lacking in nothing.  Oh the joy!

A song which helps me in these times is:  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not unto your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”

Press on, press on until the diamond appears.
